Tournaments
We compete in speech tournaments that are part of Stoa, a competitive forensics league established “to inform, encourage and equip members of Christian homeschool speech and debate.” (www.stoausa.org)
$95 yearly membership fee for Stoa required. (Membership is $125 after Sept. 30.)
Tournaments require travel, housing & meal expenses, registration fees, and 1-5 days away from home.
Most tournaments require overnight hotel accommodations. Many offer host housing as an option to reduce expenses.
Tournament attire for all competitors, consisting of professional business attire, is required. (i.e.: a suit)
A parent is required to attend tournaments with their speaker.
Parents are required to judge at tournaments. Training is provided.
Non-competing siblings are welcome to attend tournaments and often do!
Legacy requires that all speakers compete in a minimum of 4 tournaments each season.
Legacy members typically attend California tournaments in Irvine, Highland, San Diego, Livermore, Modesto, Fresno, and Sacramento.
Speakers who rank in the top 40% of a speech category at 2 tournaments will be invited to the Stoa National Invitational Tournament of Champions to be held somewhere in the United States in May or June.
