Meetings
We meet approximately two Fridays per month, Sept-May, 2:30pm – 6:30pm in San Jose. Schedule varies based on tournament schedule.
Friday afternoons, we may also have optional online meetings for additional practice.
Location TBD (likely at 5151 Carter Ave., San Jose, which is an additional facility of St. Timothy’s Church)
Student and parent attendance is required at all meetings barring unforeseen circumstances. Students may not attend without a parent. No exceptions.
Parents critique speeches. A parent’s primary role at club is to coach other students. Every parent also has jobs within the club.
Siblings are not generally allowed at club meetings, but are invited to special meetings.
Speakers come prepared to show completed assignments given the previous meeting. Students spend 2-6 hours per week to work on speeches, depending on what needs to be done.
Outside of meetings, we encourage students to also serve.
Speakers must prepare a minimum of 2 speeches for competition. Speakers must attend at least 4 tournaments per year.
2 “Dads' Nights” during the school year. Dads are expected to attend these evening sessions to critique student speeches. These are community-building events with a family potluck dinner.
We have high standards for respectful and honorable behavior. May our thoughts and actions reflect our love for God and one another. Here are some guidelines for behavior at Legacy functions.
