Service
Our vision is that homeschooled students learn to speak boldly to change the world for Christ. Besides competing in tournaments, Legacy students change the world for Christ through service projects.
Students are encouraged to use their speech skills to serve in the community through Legacy-sponsored service projects or other projects. Legacy service projects have included:
Delivering speeches and playing music at senior homes
Partnering the the non-profit Starkids to provide two free 6-week classes for 3rd–5th graders: one in platforms and one in interps. The club’s skills and experience in Stoa enabled the club members to present these classes in a multi-ethnic setting.
Legacy students who are in high school and fulfilled certain requirements are invited to join the Student Leadership Team, giving them the opportunity to develop leadership skills and give back to the club.
Outside of Legacy, some students assist in Sunday school at their churches or attend camps where they learn to tell children about the Gospel.
Stoa also gives out the Servant Heart Award, in recognition of individual students and Stoa clubs who have used their speaking skills to serve in the community.
In 2021, Legacy student Joshua Lodenquai was the recipient of the Individual Award. Joshua served as a Legacy Captain 2020-2023. In 2022, Legacy received the Club Awards for partnering with the non-profit Starkids to provide two free 6-week classes for 3rd–5th graders: one in platforms and one in interps. The club’s skills and experience in Stoa enabled the club members to present these classes in a multi-ethnic setting.
